Loohcs: An Education Reformation

"School" spelled backwards, it is a complete turnaround from the current education standards. Our idea will spark the creativity and imagination that has been lost in the public education system by enabling children to think by their own mind, not by the mind of testing. Loohcs will not only challenge students through tasks that intertwine multiple academic areas, but also offer children the opportunity to interact with the information they are learning. Ultimately, students will have the opportunity to discover and pursue their passions, all at a free price tag, encouraged to be rebels rather than robots. However, a complete rethinking of the current education system cannot be done without a set of smaller and more achievable milestones. The creation of the Internet has introduced us with multiple opportunities to modernize and improve the education system in America. Just recently a Stanford professor released one of his courses to immense popularity, reaching 160,000 students both domestic and international. At Loohcs, our first goal is to take advantage of the learning opportunities provided by the Web and provide college courses to students through a simple and efficient Internet-based system at a highly affordable price. A lecture hall that can only contain sixty students can expand to a capacity of over six hundred eager minds through the Web and could immediately broaden the base of universities. Furthermore, the Internet would enable both the students and professors to create, discover, and use educational materials such as presentations and models, furthering students' ability to learn while lowering the cost of teaching.
