All net sports have different rules, but there's one that we can all basically agree on.

Whatever object you're hitting has to go over the net, right?

Nope.

Turns out that in table tennis a player is allowed to hit the ball under the net onto the opponent's side of the table, as Fan Zhendong demonstrated against his unfortunate opponent, Simon Gauzy, in the quarterfinals of the 2016 ITTF World Tour Laox Japan Open.

Afterwards, all the players can do is laugh. Zhendong even puts his hand up as if to say, "Sorry bro, that's messed up."

Zhendong went on to win the match and the entire tournament, which should come as no surprise. When you're hitting shots like that, there's no way you can be stopped.

This rule is a serious game changer, though.

Everyone who has played garage table tennis has made this shot and insisted that it count, only to be brutally rebuffed by the opponent. The play generally results in, at best, a do-over.

But now you have evidence that this is a completely verified, legal shot, so make sure to keep this video handy next time you hit the tables.
