Reader tip: Keep your poinsettia going with ice

We asked readers to share home and garden tips last week. Here's a great one on keeping those pretty holiday blooms going strong:

"I received a huge poinsettia for Christmas, and mentioned to my friend Jessie that it would probably be dead in a few days since I definitely don't have green thumbs. She gave me this tip, and so far it's working beautifully. I've kept the plant alive for over a month. Instead of using water to keep the plant hydrated, use a tray or two of ice cubes. The cubes melt slowly and thus the roots don't get saturated. Because my plant is large, I use almost two trays of cubes and redo that every two to three days."
