Edward Burns To Direct Short Film Based on AMEX’s My Movie Pitch Winner

Edward Burns will return to the Tribeca Film Festival next year to premiere a new romantic comedy short. He’ll write the script, but the idea came from Susan Brennan, a screenwriter who won the American Express 2011 “My Movie Pitch” contest.

Brennan’s winning 60-second pitch [watch it below] tells the story of a couple forced to cut back on dining out. To satisfy their expensive culinary tastes, the husband encourages his wife to go out on blind dates and return with leftovers. Complications ensue when she falls for one of her dates.

Brennan competed with hundreds of others for the prize. Fans voted for the top 10 finalists and Brennan was then selected as the winner by a panel that included Burns, Deborah Chow (“The High Cost of Living”), Philip Gelatt (“The Bleeding House”) and Massy Tadjedin (“Last Night”).

This is the second year for the My Movie Pitch contest. The 2010 winner was John Nash, whose idea for “My Stache” was adapted by Tribeca filmmaker Jac Schaeffer (“Timer”) into a short that starred Rich Sommer (“Mad Men”) and Amy Smart. It premiered at this year’s edition of Tribeca Film Festival.
