Explore five private gardens in Milwaukie and Oak Grove. Features include a beekeeper's garden, a xeriscaped rock wall and a rose tunnel path. Visitors can begin at the Chapin Garden, 1130 S.E. River Forest Road, Oak Grove.

SnowCap Gardening:

9 a.m. SnowCap Community Charities presents this series of workshops on harvesting fresh produce and helping to reduce food costs. Registration requested. Oregon Lavender Festival:

Saturday-Sunday, July 9-10. Festival opens the door to more than 20 lavender farms and nurseries. Cut bouquets; choose lavender plants; watch craftspeople demonstrate skills; and browse a diversity of lavender products. Each farm or nursery has activities planned and its own schedule; see the website for destinations and details.

Full of Life Farm -- Friends and Family Day:

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Take a guided tour of the pastures and see firsthand how the farm cares for its animals and manages soil and forage. Topics include soil improvement as the foundation of life; brooding and raising broiler chickens on pasture; and natural bug control. Junior Gardeners Club at The Oregon Garden:

10 a.m. "Geocaching in The Oregon Garden" (GPS treasure hunt) Series of workshops aims to teach children about gardening, the outdoors, health and fitness, arts and crafts and community awareness. Suitable for ages 5-10. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants may become garden members and pay for the whole series or attend individual sessions on a drop-in basis.  The Oregon Garden, 879 W.
