Woman's Legs Crushed In Compactor At Ferndale Market
FERNDALE (WWJ/AP) - An employee at a Ferndale produce market is in critical condition Saturday after a horrifying accident.
Ferndale police say the woman got caught in a cardboard box compactor about 8:30 a.m. Friday at Western Market. The worker, described only as a female, was being treated at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
Owner Tony Selvaggio said the woman was loading boxes into the machine when she was pulled partially in, crushing her legs. Selvaggio said co-workers heard her screams and turned off the machine.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to investigate the accident and look at the box compactor.
