A beautiful and extremely rare cider, or cyder, glass, featuring an elongated funnel bowl with very fine engraving of the word "cyder" and a fruiting bough with apples and leaves. The stem is surmounted with a double collar and contains a single series air twist (SSAT) with a 5 ply band. The form of this glass, combined with the rarity of any true cider glass, make this a highly desirable specimen.

The glass stands a goodly 6 7/8" tall, with a bowl diameter of 2 1/2" and a foot diameter of 2 11/16". The lead metal has excellent color, tool marks, and striations, and there are no condition flaws or restorations whatsoever. Conical foot with rough, snapped pontil.

Note: In the 18th century, cider, of the type drunk in glasses such as the one here, was an alcoholic beverage made from a single pressing of vintage fruit and matured in casks or bottles. It was considerably different from the lower quality beverage made by dilution, with large quantities of water, of the residual pulp from the original pressing.
