Do you use an electric toothbrush? Electric toothbrushes are becoming more popular, but even so, the standard toothbrush is more than likely what you think of when someone says the word “toothbrush.” If you are out of ideas, why not get your loved ones this type of toothbrush? Here are four fun facts about electric toothbrushes.

Welcome to America

Did you know that the electric toothbrush first came to America in the 1960s? Although the first wave came over around the same time the Beatles were first making their name in North America, the first electric toothbrush was invented in Switzerland by a doctor named Philippe Guy Woog. Woog’s toothbrushes reached France, where they were produced by a company called Broxo SA. This company name led to the first electric toothbrush to be sold as the Broxodent.

No Batteries

We are surrounded by so many devices that feature a rechargeable battery that we such technology is just a fact of life for us. But the original electric toothbrushes weren’t designed this way. If you had a Broxodent, you had to plug it into a wall outlet to use it. Today’s modern descendants of the Broxodent can be used multiple times before they need to be charged again.

They Work Faster

Ordinary toothbrushes can only so fast, are only so effective. Luckily, electric toothbrushes pack much more power into the same amount of time you would use a regular toothbrush. In a single minute, your hand can deliver anywhere from 250 to 350 brushing motions. If you brush your teeth for only two or three minutes, then you won’t be able to manage more than 700 brushings. That might seem like a lot, but since an electric toothbrush works faster, you can expect more than 700.

The Power of Bluetooth

We know what you’re thinking: talking about Bluetooth is hilariously appropriate when it comes to brushing your teeth. But some models of electric toothbrush can sync up with an app on your smartphone. This app can then deliver you information how well you brushed, how long you were brushing your teeth, and how much pressure you applied.
