GAF PHP Excel Reader

Requirement:

A class will be written in pure native PHP5 that can read xls, xlsx, csv files into an array (like PHPExcel). When testing with PHPExcel we could not reliably read in large files without consuming huge amounts of memory (>1 GB). We are currently running PHP version 5.1.6 on all systems.

Here is a list of instructions that the finished class must conform to:

- Must be capable of working with all mainstream file versions produced by MS Office 97, 2003, 2010, Open Office & Mac Numbers.

- Must be able to work with multiple worksheets (xls & xlsx).

- Must not consume too much memory with large files (<100 MB) e.g. we will regularly use this new class to import >200,000 excel rows.

- Must be able to detect date columns correctly and be accurately readable by the PHP strtotime() function.

- Must not use any autoload magic functions as this is known to conflict with our codebase.

The finished class will need to be supplied with benchmark results and example data used to create the benchmark results.
