AJR — comprised of brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan Met — are having a stellar 2018. Their song “Sober Up,” featuring Weezer’s River Cuomo, just earned the trio their first No. 1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart. Now, they’re following that up with the fiery new track “Burn the House Down.”
AJR’s latest single is their first release since their 2017 album The Click. “Burn the House Down” features an energetic arrangement of horns that illuminate the hard-hitting lyrics. “Watch me stand in the line, you’re only serving lies/ You’ve got something to hide, we gon’ burn the whole house down,” they sing.
The song is a reflection of the current American political climate — and the role that younger generations have within it. “We’re at a very interesting point in history right now,” Ryan said in a press release announcing the song. “There’s a tangible power that our generation now has, making real political change in the world. That energy excites us, so we wanted to write a song shedding light on it.”
The band, who’ve also had a Billboard Hot 100 hit with “Weak,” are currently on tour in support of The Click. Most of the tour dates have already sold out, but fans can catch them at the Hangout Festival and Forecastle Festival this summer.
