Heat wave in city: Over 50 people dead already

Four more people died of heat stroke in the city on Thursday. All of them were elderly people. With this the total death toll has risen to 51 in the city. At least three patients were brought to VS hospital while one death was recorded in LG hospital.

AHMEDABAD: Four more people died of heat stroke in the city on Thursday. All of them were elderly people. With this the total death toll has risen to 51 in the city. At least three patients were brought to VS hospital while one death was recorded in LG hospital.
On Wednesday, too, most of the eight people who were brought to the hospitals were senior citizens.
Ahmedabad Municipal corporation (AMC) has asked families to keep elders indoors during afternoons to avoid dehydration and heat strokes.
Mercury levels in Ahmedabad recorded a maximum of 43.5 degree Celsius, which is three degrees above the temperatures recorded last year during the same time. The minimum temperatures recorded was 29.4 degree Celsius.
Cities like Bhuj recorded a maximum of 38.6 degree Celsius, Rajkot recorded 41.5 degree Celsius, while Surat happened to be coolest city with temperatures recording 34.7 degrees Celsius.
Over the last few days, the Indian meteorological department officials say, the city temperatures are becoming normal due to the westerly winds, which over the last few days has brought in some moisture in the air giving some respite.
