After Ignoring Houston for Years, In-N-Out Burger Plots Its First Location Inside the City

After ignoring Houston for years, In-N-Out Burger has plans to come to the city in a major way in the coming years.

A tipster pointed Eater in the direction of building permits filed with the City of Houston by In-N-Out Burger for a location at 7611 West FM 1960 in Willowbrook. According to LoopNet, that property is the home of a former Chase Bank location, which already has a drive-thru in place for the burger chain to serve its Double-Doubles and Animal-style fries.

As has been previously reported, In-N-Out’s first Houston-area location is expected to debut at the forthcoming the Grid development in Stafford, and an outpost that’s set to open in Katy. Rumors of In-N-Out’s expansion to Houston first surfaced in 2017, when the chain purchased a parcel of land in Briarmeadow, though no additional details on that specific location have been announced just yet.

The chain’s arrival in Houston comes more than eight years after the California-based chain opened its first Texas outpost in a suburb of Dallas in 2011. It’s since opened a number of restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth, along with outposts in Austin and San Antonio. It’s unclear why exactly the chain took so long to get to Houston, but In-N-Out CEO Lynsi Snyder has said that Texas is as far east as the chain plans to go.

In-N-Out will officially arrive in Houston this fall, when the Stafford location opens. Stay tuned for more details on when the Willowbrook location will make its debut.
