A police constable is nursing gunshot injuries after a confrontation with criminal elements yesterday.
The incident happened just after 6pm along Rainbow Avenue in Enterprise.
Officers of the Central Division Task Force were on patrol when they observed a group of men acting suspiciously.
The officers attempted to confront the individuals, but the suspects allegedly pulled out firearms and shot at the lawmen.
The officers took cover and, in keeping with the use of force policy, returned fire.
The suspects escaped the scene.
However, during the exchange, one officer sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.
He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for treatment.
