RAJKOT: Pre-monsoon activities seem to have begun in Saurashtra. Jamkandorana, Jetpur, Mevasa and Choki towns in Rajkot district witnessed unseasonal rain and thunder storm on Thursday. Several trees were uprooted by the storm and a youth was seriously injured in electrocution.
Jamkandorana experienced maximum of 1.75 inch rainfall, followed by Khambha in Amreli district and Choki in Junagadh district, where a youth received electric shock.
The victim, identified as Kishor Jayantilal, 31, came in contact with live wire which was lying submerged in rain water. He survived the shock after he was provided emergency treatment at a hospital.
According to the state meteorological department, the rains were the result of pre-monsoon activities which resulted in cloud formation called Cumulonimbus (Cb). "This type of cloud pattern brings about a drastic reduction in temperatures, causing unseasonal rains," said a met official.
About half-a-dozen trees were uprooted by strong gales accompanied by unseasonal rains in Dhoraji and Rayadi and Dudhivar villages of Jamkandorana taluka.
