Bullying at Work

I was pleased to find this morning that I'm not the only one who is rather uncomfortable about the intervention of the National Bullying Helpline in the 'Prime Monster' affair as the Sun has now christened it. There are clearly serious allegations against the Prime Minister which need to be addressed and I suspect the story will run and run.

But, surely a confidential helpline is precisely that, and if I or anyone else phones such a helpline they must expect total confidentiality. It appears on the face of it that this duty of confidentiality has been broken in a media circus, by none other than the Chief Executive of the organisation. Very poor indeed and well done to Iain Dale for highlighting this exact point.

What is sad about the whole affair is that bullying at work is so commonplace. (Amongst the organisations I worked in combatting the problem was the MoD). Even now I get asked by friends - what do I do about it?
It's illegal, it's unnecessary and it's demeaning. Just stand up and it will stop. Whether your boss is, for example, a prime minister, or not.
