Jungle Joe was instrumental in rescuing a teenage canoer who overturned his canoe on Labor Day weekend. As Joe and his wife, Tara, were preparing to launch their kayak into the lake they heard the boy yelling for help. At that moment the boys father was donning his life vest to swim out to his son who had climbed on top of his overturned canoe. Jungle Joe instructed the father to jump into his two seated kayak and they paddled out to the boy. Other kayakers, who also heard the teenager's yell for help, immediately responded to help and were able to turn the canoe right side up as Jungle Joe and the boy's father arrived along with a rescue boat. Once the boy was back in his canoe, he followed Jungle Joe's kayak and his father back to land.
