Do you know what you Want?

Alright, it’s time to talk about something serious here.  Are you one of those people going through the motions without a clear plan to get what you want?

I’m going to ask you a very simple question which I want you to think long and hard about before you answer….

What do you want?

If the best answer you can come up with is something generic like happiness, or security then I can tell you RIGHT now why you don’t already have it.  You see, in order to get what you want you have to know exactly what it is.  In this post I’m going to show you how to figure out precisely what you want so you can start working on it immediately.

Happiness is a great goal, but it’s way too vague.  You have to take a step back and think about the things in life that bring you happiness.  For instance, my happiness comes from having more time with my wife and family.  Since I know this I am able to work on my business so it gives me more free time.

Identifying what you want

The most important thing you can figure out, not only for your business, but for your well being is your ideal life design (ILD.)  By figuring this out up front you can tailor your business to meet your needs.

Today I want to give you the questions I asked myself when I was trying to figure out my ideal life design.  I encourage you to grab a piece of paper and start answering these simple questions.

Ideal Life Design Worksheet

To determine your Ideal Life Design you have to ask yourself these questions:

  1. Why am I here?
  2. What is the purpose of my life?
  3. What fulfills me above all other things?

Yeah, I know this is kinda “heady” stuff for a social media blog…but everything you do in business and in life should lead you to answering these questions.

I know it may be hard to answer these questions right off the bat, so here are some more supporting questions that will help you figure it all out.

  • Why are you in business?

You have to be very clear on “why” you are in business.  Your “why” has to be strong enough to guide you through the tough times.

  • How many hours per week would you like to work?

Please, don’t answer this question by calculating the total hours you put in each week, rather think about how many hours would be ideal for you to work while maintaining or exceeding your current lifestyle.

  • What would you like your monthly income to be?

Seriously, be specific so you have a solid number to work with.  And remember, what you’re making now doesn’t play into this.  We’re identifying your Ideal Life Design, sky is the limit 😉

  • How do you want your business to look?
  1. Do you want employees?
  2. Would you rather have a virtual assistant?
  3. Do you want an office?
  4. Would you rather work from home?
  5. Do you want to work with buyers?
  6. Do you want to work with sellers?
  7. Would you prefer to work with both?
  • If you had a million dollars tomorrow…
  1. What three things would you buy?
  2. What three things would you do?

These answers will help you identify the most important things in your Ideal Life Design, the things you want to work towards.

  • What are the top 3 things you HAVE to do before you die?

Why do you have to wait until the end of your life to do these things?  Why can’t you start working towards making them happen sooner rather than later?

If you’re always waiting to “make more money” you’ll never get what you want.  By identifying the things that are most important to you RIGHT NOW you can develop a plan to make these things happen.

What’s next?

Having the questions handy your job is to dig deep and find the answers.  Take some time to review this post and really figure out what you’re working for.  once you have the answers you’ll be in prime position to work on your Ideal Life Design.

I’ll be writing more about time management and outsourcing in future posts.  The best way to keep up with everything is by subscribing to my feed so you don’t miss a thing.
