Gurgaon: A 26-year old man was arrested by Gurgaon police on Wednesday after a Delhi woman lodged a complaint alleging that her acquaintance had raped her on Tuesday night in a flat in Saraswati Vihar here. The woman alleged that the accused had brought her to Gurgaon on the pretext of helping her find a job in the Millennium City.
According to police, the victim is a resident of south Delhi.
"The woman used to work in a beauty parlour. Recently she had lost her job and was desperately looking for another. After coming to know of the woman's state of affairs, the accused, Mukesh Kumar, offered to help her find a job. The two are known to each other for quite sometime. Mukesh hails from Madhya Pradesh and has been staying in East of Kailash since the last several years," said Jagdish Prasad, SHO of Sector 29 police station.
The police officer added that the accused had picked up the woman from Dhaula Kuan in Delhi and took her to M G Road, Gurgaon, on his motorcycle. They then spent some time in a mall after which the accused took her to a flat in Saraswati Vihar and allegedly raped her. The accused then told the victim to leave the place on her own," Prasad added.
The accused works as a medical representative, said the police.
The woman approached the Gurgaon police on Wednesday morning. "We have arrested the accused, Mukesh, after a medical test on the woman confirmed rape. Mukesh has been booked under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the IPC. Efforts are on to find out the owner of the flat where the crime was committed," said a senior police officer in Sector 29 police station.
