Fall at San Diego stadium proves fatal

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- A man who fell from a press booth at Qualcomm Stadium while putting together San Diego Chargers media packages died Tuesday morning, officials said.

Walt Daniels, 66, was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m., 12 hours after he tumbled 20 to 25 feet, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. He was helping prepare handouts for Monday night's game between the Chargers and the Denver Broncos.

Two members of the Broncos radio staff witnessed the fall. They said Daniels, who used a cane to walk, stumbled while coming down some steps and pitched out of the booth.

He landed first on some seats and then on concrete.

Daniels was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital. The accident delayed the opening of the stadium but not the kickoff.
