MLS Clubs Also Chasing Baptiste
MLS Clubs Also Chasing Baptiste
Tuesday, 2nd Feb 2010 09:33

Trinidadian trialist Kerry Baptiste is being targeted by MLS sides FC Dallas and Toronto FC. Baptiste, 28, is due for a trial at Portman Road next week after his initial spell was cancelled due to the recent bad weather.

The two MLS clubs have also invited striker or winger Baptiste for trials, however the player says he is currently concentrating on his chance to impress the Blues: “I know a few clubs are hoping to have me, but I’m focused on the Ipswich trial at hand. I will do my best at the club to impress the coaches.”

Baptiste, who is currently with Joe Public FC in his home country, is due to starts his trial on February 10th before returning to Trinidad on February 19th. Baptiste scored 48 goals in the last domestic season in Trinidad.

Elsewhere, Honduran reports claim that central defender Osman Chávez could still potentially join Town in the summer after his proposed move to Newcastle broke down. The 25-year-old, initially linked with the Blues last week, currently plays for Platense in his home country.

Meanwhile on Sunday afternoon, Shane Supple will play his first football match since leaving the Blues in August. Supple will be in a side made up of former pupils of St Declan’s College in Dublin as they celebrate its 50th anniversary with a game against Brian Murphy’s former team Bohemians at their Dalymount Park home.

Since leaving Town Supple has played Gaelic football with St Brigid’s and is tipped to represent Dublin at the top level of the Irish game. The former Blue is also training to become a police officer.

Of course he will be doing his best to impress. Why would he want to join the mickey mouse league. I don't know if any one would agree with me but I reckon if Ipswich were in the MLS they would be champions. Any one else?

True say. Where have all the town supporters gone? What really grinds my gears is that the majority of supporter will sit through the cold and wet, crap 0-0s or unlucky 1-0 loses, but it seems that when we reach a crucial game its the people that don't turn up seem to get tickets and others miss out.

Can not wait for the Boro game this Saturday, Healey debut hat-trick.

Presumably, if he impresses, he can't join until the summer, as he has a current club. Is this right?

out of interest which wing does he play on?? Just thinking if we have Walters on the right, and Murphy on the left where exactly does he fit in (up front i guess?). Or as you said arc if he joins in the summer then who knows who we will have left at the club as so many are loanees.

The comments by brockleyblueboy, are the comments I would expect from an arrogant Yank, not a good old Brit like myself, here is my response, and no I do not think Ipswich Town would be MLS champs, relegated Newcastle would be.

As a supporter of TFC in the MLS, It is all we have in our short history as a league and a team in Toronto, we are a developing league and I am sure you will agree that it takes years to become a league that is comparable to the more developed ones in the world, yes it does have it's so called 'Mickey Mouse' tendencies, but I as a person who was born in Blackpool must say that the support in Toronto is by far more superior than many teams in the U.K. how many CCC and League 1 teams can boast over 20,000 sellout crowds every home game, not many. So give us a break, and let us develop and learn from more established leagues.

Cheers Mates

TFCDerek - I have, like so many others, have watched the MLS and the level of football is horrendous. Now I am not one of these people that are "well they are americans and they can't play" they can, its just at a very sub standard level. Yes you have a short histroy but how many american players have made the grade to play over - dempsy, donovan, howard. Not many.

I am a proud Ipswich fan and my main point was that if he was even considering a bid from the MLS then they can have him. FOOTBALLERS?SOCCER PLAYERS that are wirth their salt want to mix it with the big boys and the fact that the championship is the 4th hoghest watched league in the world says something.

Take your MLS and shove it up your arse

PS Toronto suck

Gotta love people who call yanks arrogant not realizing how arrogant they are being. Saya something about people IQ. The MLS is a league that is growing but yes it is behind a lot of leagues in the world. To put down though shows arrogance beyond belief. Since moving over here I have watched a half a game but that is because I have no interest in American teams but I would encourage it. As for yanks not being able to compete at the top level it wasn't that long ago when the USA drew with Brazil, beat Argentina 3-1 and beat England. So give them a break at least they are trying to develop or shall we talk about other popular sport in the world like basketball and how good England is or ice hockey and how english teams would stack up to NHL teams?

The point ofthe post is show some respect especially for people trying to get the beautful game going in a country where rightly or wrongly it is consdered a girls sport, and the tv companies who don't like the game because it doesn't have breaks to allow for commercials.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering with this, but...
MLS is impossible to compare to any other league in the world because it operates under a different set of rules. Central controls ensure that all teams are as closely matched as possible. Last year 12 of 15 teams finished within 10 points of the regular season champion.
That said, those that have played in the Championship and MLS often suggest that the two leagues are about the same in quality. One of your own — Jason deVos -- comments on MLS in Canada now and he's suggested that the best MLS teams would finish about mid-table in the CCC.
But, by all means, stick with your superior attitude. Whatever gets you to sleep at night.
