1000bhp Porsche 911 GT3

Porsche tuner 9ff does the unthinkable: the Bugatti Veyron chasing 911 GT3 supercar

Do you like the way your 911 GT3 handles, but wish it had double the horsepower? Well fear not, renowned Porsche tuner 9ff (who else?) has a solution.  If you’re one of the lucky few who own either a GT3 or a GT3 RS from the 997 era, you can now buy conversion kits which will take your supercar to a whole new level.  How fast are we talking? Well, 9ff says its top level conversion will hit 62mph in 2.9sec, with 124mph arriving in 8.2sec. The theoretical top speed is somewhere north of 240mph. Fairly nippy, then.  A pair of turbochargers are bolted to the 3.8-litre flat-six engine, and create serious boost. There’s a choice of GTurbo750, 850 or 1000 packages. In case you were wondering, the numbers relate to the number of horses powering the rear wheels. Titanium con-rods and forged pistons mean the engine can cope with the huge hike in power. As a reference, the current 911 GT3 RS rolls out of the factory with 444bhp. Video of it in action here. 9ff’s package includes a body kit that improves cooling by venting a stream of cold air into the intercooler mounted in the rear. The kit also has vents in the front bumper, creating an area of low pressure in the wheel wells at high speed, keeping the brakes at a reasonable operating temperature.  There’s also a set of 19in lightweight alloy wheels, with or without a central-lock feature. 9ff have supplied prices for those (£4,330 or £5172 with the centre locking nut) and the body kit (£7,740 plus fitting and painting), but have kept quiet on the cost of any engine work. With that in mind, we’d have to assume it’s a case of ‘if you have to ask, you can’t afford it’.  Can this type of kit really improve on one of the greatest drivers' cars ever built? We’d like to hear your thoughts. Brilliance or blasphemy?  The Forum’s the place… Let us know your thoughts via the evo Twitter and Facebook, too
