Jenson Button became Formula One champion in October 2009

The Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button is to be made an honorary citizen of his home town in Somerset and have a footbridge named after him. Members of Frome Town Council voted to give him the civic honour in recognition of his achievements. Mayor, Damon Hooton, said:"The bridge is going to be built anyway so we decided it would be a good idea to name it after him." Work to build the bridge across the River Frome is due to start soon. 'Green light' Councillor Hooton said: "He [Jenson Button] will have a presentation scroll to commemorate it and we're going to name the new bridge to be built in Frome after him. "We will put a plaque on the bridge with a suitable commemoration on it. We're hoping the bridge will be built between now and the summer. "The planning process is done and it's subject to an appeal on whether the current Bailey bridge should be lifted. "Once that's all finalised, we should get the green light and off we go."
