Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The White House has now set up a processing center in Jordan to screen thousands of Syrian refugees headed to the U.S.

More than 1,200 Syrian refugees are already in the U.S., now the Obama administration is ramping up efforts to fulfill the president's goal of 10,000 by year's end.

“What we know is that President Obama wants to go fast and the way he thinks he can do that is by opening this processing center,” says Nayla Rush, senior researcher at the Center for Immigration Studies.

That's roughly 600 homeland security screenings each day, sparking safety concerns by Rush and others.

“We have families coming here that are resettled, but we don't know why those and not the others, and we don't know why the United States is adamant about bringing 10,000 in three months,” says Rush.

Rush says both the U.S. and refugees would be better off if they stayed put in the Middle East.“They would be close to Syria, when the war ends they can help rebuild their own country, so why bring them here?”
