As bassist of the Devil’s Share, Smith James revels in being the ultimate bad boy, until he meets a good girl…who likes it dirty. PILLS. PAIN. LOSS. LOVE. Smith James doesn’t need drugs. He just likes them a whole lot. And as bassist for the Devil’s Share, they are easy to come by. So are the women. With a steady supply of both he doesn’t have to think too hard about his past. But when a beautiful physician’s assistant joins the tour, Smith can’t help but want…more. After watching her high school boyfriend OD, there is no way Dylan Lawson is going to fall for a rock star with a tenuous hold on sobriety, no matter how sexy his New Orleans drawl. She’s been hired to do one monitor the health of the lead singer’s girlfriend and her unborn baby. But once Smith flashes that sweet, vulnerable smile, Dylan can’t help but want…more. And more is what they’ll get. Love on tour is never simple, and with a music festival in Smith’s hometown, a place he’s avoided for years, near his illiterate, abusive, meth-addled father, Smith is one bad night away from a relapse. But with her heart already lost, Dylan is willing to do whatever is necessary to save him—even play a little dirty.

I live in Austin, Texas with my husband, daughter, 3 rescue dogs, 1 cat, and one bunny (that doesn't seem to like us). I love reading romance novels as much as I love writing them. I feel like inspiration can come from anywhere; a song lyric, a quote, a weekend with friends. The tiniest things can spark amazing stories.

He behaved as the ultimate bad boy, fierce, self-destructive, addicted to booze and pills and nameless, faceless sex. He grew up in a cold world where kindness or gentleness was non-existent, where a fist was more powerful than a hug and no one expected anything but failure from him. But deep within Smith was a shell of a lonely man, unsure of how to accept love, positive any love he could give someone would be tainted, but he was trying to clean up his act, for the band, himself and HER.

Dylan was all that was good and compassionate, accepting and kind and her presence drove Smith crazy. He wanted her, body and soul, but how could she want to be with a damaged man like him? Little did Smith know, inside the quiet patience of Dylan was the heart of a panther, a wildcat who could play rough, and give it back. But will things be so easy for these two with the lack of privacy on the bus and the very nosy members of the band? On the night Smith was to meet Dylan’s parents, a disastrous event takes place that will test their bond, as well as that of the band…will Smith find himself alone again?

L.P. Maxa’s Play Dirty still carries the same signature style, but this time out the emotional pull is magnetic as a tale of two people, one in need of salvation and the other needing to get over the past struggle to find their own happy ever after. I NEVER go into another addition to a series fearing what I will think, based on the first book, thinking, I don’t know what to expect, of course I don’t, I haven’t read it yet! An author’s style always shines through, and a clever author will change up the plot, the emotional energy and tension. Trust me, L.P. Maxa is a clever author who knows how to write!

I received this copy from L.P. Maxa in exchange for my honest review.

SMITH JAMES IS A SEX GOD

I was beyond excited about getting my hands on this new installment in The Devil's Share series. I fell hard for Lexi in the first book. I know, right? You expected me to mention the sexy rockstars and it's a girl I bring up. Sorry, but I have a BIG girl-crush on her. As you either already know, or will soon find out, "If Lexi ain't happy, ain't nobody happy" and "To Lexi the world was her recliner." She's sweet, funny, and badass when it's called for. She has those rockers wrapped around her little finger...and me too.

Even with pregnancy hormones raging, Lexi is still bubbly. Her vice is sweets. Just try and keep her away from the ice cream or cookies. Her doting boyfriend is Dash, the lead singer. He hired Dylan, a Physician's Assistant to go on tour with them to keep an eye on Lexi and their unborn baby. While she tries to keep an eye on Lexi's eating habits, she doesn't push too hard. She has much more fun pushing the boys in the band. They soon discover that she might be tiny in stature, but she has BIG lady-balls, and she knows a lot of BIG words. I'm not into medical terminology so much, but "nocturnal penile tumescence" was pretty damn funny.

Actually, there was a lot of funny in this book. Those rocker boys, Dagger, Lexi & Dylan entertained me non-stop. And it wasn't just their banter that entertained me, there was some serious HEAT happening too. My kindle almost burst into flames a time or two (wink-wink).

And then there was Smith...sigh. While I only read it, rather than having first hand knowledge, I was convinced and willing to wear a t-shirt declaring that SMITH JAMES IS A SEX GOD. That's not all he has going for him though. I have a weakness for deeply damaged men, and for rockstars...he is both. My heart broke for him and the painful past that tormented him. He thought he was hiding his darkness from Dylan, but she saw much more than he thought. Not only was she tuned into him, she recognized signs that she wished she didn't.

Dylan had no desire to travel that road again. She had barely survived it the first time. She felt drawn to him, but feared, "What happens if I fall in love with this man and he goes dark and never comes back?" And Smith, who was a self-proclaimed manwhore, was not relationship material anyway. So, there's nothing for her to worry over, she would just enjoy the tour, and then go back to her life when it was over. Hmm...good luck with that, right?

To be honest- this book bored me. It dragged and I couldn't wait to be done with it.

What didn't work for me:
1. Smith- I couldn't gauge his age, I couldn't picture what he looked like, and he still seemed like an immature kid in my mind from book one.
2. H/h relationship- I bought his end of it but not hers. I could see how he felt and worked to keep what he wanted but she didn't ring true to me.
3. Sex. Way too much annoying sex. Book one who was about the biggest manwhore didn't have much detailed sex this book? It was over kill.
4. Lexi- omg! Did she freaking annoy the hell out of me. Who died and made her queen mother of all? And why did they let her get away with having no boundaries and being ridiculously bossy, and getting her way? Annnnnnnnoooooyyyyying as all flipping hell.
5. Humor- where the hell was the good funny humor?

I absolutely loved Smith and Dylan!! Dylan was a strong woman not looking to fix anyone but here comes along smith needing fixed but she didn’t take it upon herself to fix him..she knew he needed to do it on his own and realize. I feel like the trial could have made the book a little longer but glad to get some kind of closure. And holy cow the ending set up the next book PERFECTLY!!!!

How can you NOT fall for Smith. I have to be honest and say I saw Dylan with Luke when she was first introduced but seeing how her and Smith meshed and fit so perfectly, I take that back.

Their past played off each other and her experience with drugs, secrets, and loss is what made for balance that would keep him on track. The little games, sexual frustration, and The Walking Dead marathon is what helped keep the darkness at bay and make the secret zipper invalid. That is just what he needed, someone else and something else to choose besides the drugs and random groupies.

I enjoyed their story and the way she let go of his hand to grab hold of his heart and take aim at his demons with her pistol. Badass PA.

Now on to bigger problems with both of those WFT parts to the ending.... Luke? Get over it. Jacks? I knew it.

I'm really enjoying this series so far. It is exactly the sort of book that I like reading. The characters are all likeable and the dynamic between the band members and the girls is great. It is fun, sweet and sexy and of course- Rockstar.

Dylan joins The Devil's Share tour to look after Lexi during her pregnancy. She is attracted to Smith but is hesitant to get into a relationship with someone with substance abuse issues. Smith has always turned to drugs and random sex to help him forget his past but finds that he is choosing to be with Dylan more and more instead.

I like how this author is able to go quickly from sizzling attraction to relationship without it feeling shallow. Dylan and Smith's personalities mesh well which makes the relationship feel authentic and not insta-love fluff. I will definitely be reading this again.

Dylan can sure be a handful, “Dylan, if you wanted to cop a feel, all you had to do was ask.” I was trying to make light of the situation, which wasn’t easy considering that Dylan had just rolled off the couch and landed right on top of my nut sack." Smith can be such a romantic, “the first time? The first time I want all night, no interruptions.” I shrugged. “After that we can eff on the bus like rabbits.” I freaking loved Dylan that girl was entertaining as hell, “it’s fine, babe. My dad was worried being on tour could be dangerous so he brought me my pistol. He’s thoughtful like that.” I seriously loved this book and can't wait for the next one.

I received this book as an ARC for a honest review. This book was read and reviewed by Stacy Aube for Cutting Muse Blog Review.

Dylan goes on tour with the band as Lexi's personal physician assistant due to her pregnancy. Smith is the guitarist for the band. Lexi tells him to leave Dylan alone.

Dylan is crushing on Smith but is his past to much for her to accept? Smith wants to try but can he change his ways.

Absolutely loved this story and can't wait to see what is next.

Another great Devil's Share book! I LOVE hot rockers and these guys definitely fit the bill.
I think of the Queen song Another One Bites the Dust when I think of Smith. A badboy manwh#re changed by love. Actually he was saved by Love!
Dylan was perfect for him and I was so worried he would hurt her and couldn't change. But she had faith in him and they made it!
That ending OH BOY or should I say GIRL!!! I cannot wait for Jacks book

Play dirty is book two in the devils share series. I have read this book before but the review seems to have disappeared. As I have just re read this series, I thought I would do a short review.

We first met Smith and learned of his issues with drugs in book one. We also met Dylan at the end of book one as she is Lexi’s PA. Dylan and Smith are perfect for one another. Smith is a loving and caring man but in a way, he is broken, he has demons. Dylan is bossy and she has her own rules she doesn’t like to break. Having lost her high school/college boyfriend the way she did, dating someone that does drugs was a massive no, no for her. That being said, she cannot deny what she feels for Smith. In a way, they kind of crept up on her. One of the things I love and loved about Smith is that he feels so deeply. He has a rock star edge but he is also a sensitive soul. He’s so affected from his childhood and his sh*tty family (blood family, not the devil share family) that he used drugs and women as an escape. I like Dylan but she isn’t my favourite devil share woman. I think because she has her rules and she is super bossy, it’s a little hard to see her feelings/emotions. I did see her feelings for Smith at times but I did want to shout at her to chill out a little bit.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and a nice read. I love this series and as it is one of my favourite series, I would recommend reading it as part of a series.

So LP Maxa Is a new to me author.. Thanks to a amazing friend and blogger Amy with obsessive book whore.. She turned me on to her.. I love me some good rocker books.. and I found this entire series/box set on sale.. I devoured this entire series..
Play dirty is book two in the devils share series.. This book follows Smith and Dylan. Smith is the Bass player for The Devils Share and he has had a lifetime of fighting some pretty dark demons. Growing up with a family that were major drug users, along with having a abusive father.. Smith often times felt like there was no escape. Then in walked Dylan..

"He was a manwhore, a possible drug addict, and too hot for his own good - a freaking horrible combination."

Dylan is a PA (we met her in book 1) She was hired to go on tour with the band and to keep a eye on Lexi during her pregnancy. And while Dylan may have had her own past with drug users (prior boyfriend) and she does not what to go down that road again.. she cant help for be drawn to Smith

"I don't need to save you because you are strong enough to save yourself. I'm just here to remind you of that when you forget."

I absolutely loved this book and I cant wait to see what Jack's is up to.

Ok you have a sexy rockstar with a body made for sin and add to that a sexy Cajun accent, he calls his Dylan Cher but sounds like sha- I was hooked! He was a tortured soul and Dylan was the balm. Because of her he gave up women who meant nothing to him and he gave up drugs that only hurt him. I loved how sweet he was with Dylan. I found this book sexy and romantic. They were perfect together and their chemistry was off the charts. I loved this book even more then book one and I recommend it highly. I can’t wait to start book three in this Series, Jacks and Bryan’s story.

I love this series

It’s a great series with relatable elements. It’s slightly predictable, you know when an incident is going to happen but it’s totally unpredictable as to what is going to happen. This one was totally awesome

A good, quick read. Rock star Smith meets Doctor Dylan and they get together pretty quickly. It was a nice level of tension with a gritty rock story thrown in. I enjoyed it and will read the others.

Play Dirty is the second book in the Devil's Share series by L.P. Maxa. Before reading the first book in the series, Play Nice, I hadn't read anything by L.P. Maxa, but that book made me an instant fan. Maxa's writing is fun and sexy, and I love the emotions that she is able to bring out as well. So when I finished Play Nice, I couldn't wait to get more of these sexy rockstars. Though I am still really partial to Lexi and Dash, I enjoyed Dylan and Smith's story and couldn't get enough of them.

Smith James, bassist for Devil's snare, is used to enjoying women and drugs to escape his past. Though he doesn't need the drugs, he likes them and doesn't want to quit. But when Dylan Lawson joins the tour in order to look out for Lexi and her baby, Smith finally sees a reason to give up the women and drugs. Dylan can tell that Smith uses, and while she doesn't condemn him for that she also can't be with someone who is caught up in drugs after losing her high school boyfriend to them. But the more time they spend together, the more Dylan sees that Smith is changing. When the tour takes them to Smith's hometown though, his past comes back and threatens everything that they are trying to build.

Smith was complicated and I was really interested in his character from the beginning. He had so much in his past and beneath the surface, and he didn't let a lot of people in. Though he was a good guy, he was also struggling with some guilt and painful family memories. Dylan was so good for him, and I really liked how she was with him right away. Though she knew he was a bit of a bad boy, she didn't let that stop her from seeing where things between them could go. Dylan was smart and funny, and I liked how well she fit in with the band right away. She was extremely likable, and I loved that she was able to hold her own. These two connected emotional and I enjoyed seeing them get to know one another. Watching Smith transform from the guy that lived for drugs and casual sex to being the caring and sexy boyfriend content to stay at home and watch movies with his girl was a lot of fun. The chemistry between them was smoking hot and the sparks were flying from the start. But it was seeing them fall for one another and grow closer that I really enjoyed the most.

Overall, I love this series and Play Dirty was such a great addition. I was worried that since I loved Play Nice so much that this book wouldn't be able to live up to the expectations I had because of that, but that absolutely wasn't the case. L.P. Maxa brought the heat, emotions, and humor that she did the first time around and I felt like she really did the characters justice here. This wasn't just another rockstar story, and I was so glad that Smith and Dylan's story was so genuine and believable. This group of characters is one of my favorites, and the camaraderie between them is unlike any other I have read before. Each character is unique and different, and while they are flawed they are easy to relate to and root for. If you are looking for a great contemporary romance this series is one I would highly recommend. I think that readers will really enjoy these books as much as I have, and I am already anxious for the next book after how L.P. Maxa left us set up at the end of Play Dirty.

***ARC was given for an honest review.***

This was my first L.P. Maxa book and I am so glad it didn’t disappoint! I wasn’t expecting anything so imagine my surprise when I found it very heartwarming, deep and so funny.

Play Dirty kept me clicking through my Kindle because I couldn’t wait what happened next to Smith and Dylan. Smith was The Devil’s Share bassist while Dylan was the kind of medical assistant to Lexi (who’s preggerz with Dash’s (The Devil’s Share vocalist) kid).

Even from the beginning, the chemistry between Smith and Dylan was effortless. It was always there. It was like they were both a ticking bomb waiting to explode and when it did, it was amazing. Even when they were opposing poles. I didn’t have any hard time connecting with the two characters who were broken in their own ways from way back. If anything, their brokenness made me even more connected with them. But the journey to their HEA wasn’t easy. There were struggles, groupies, scandals and the dirt that came from being a famous rock band. But you know what I really love about Smith and Dylan’s story? The way that both characters choose to hold on to each other despite everything bad that’s happening around them. So much feels. It’s amazing; it makes my chest hurt. The steamy scenes were absolutely hot, too! I mean—wow! Well what would you expect from a rockstar book, right?

It was also nice to have a glimpse of the other Devil’s Share members. They were pretty hilarious, cocky and awesome, too! Well, just like Smith. Haha! Side note: I hate Smith’s father with all my heart.

Overall, I don’t think this will be the last L.P. Maxa book that I’ll read because Play Dirty was everything I didn’t know I’d like. It was so sexy, funny but emotional, deep, and suspenseful at the same time. L.P. Maxa blended humor and angst well in this book. Total package for a 5-star book on my list!

So I REALLY liked this book, but I just couldn't give it the full 5 stars because I just can't help comparing it to the first book in the series Play Nice I loved that book so much that it took me a while to even pick this book up because I didn't want to read about anyone other than Dash and Lexi.

Although Smith really grabbed my heart in the first book so I was eager to read his story. Smith has been fighting demons his whole life. Coming from a family of drug users, and an abusive father, he didn't think much of himself so he didn't try too hard to make good decisions. Until he met Dylan.

Dylan joined the tour to watch over Lexi's pregnancy and be an on call nurse basically. Dylan has her own past with drug users and she is not interested in going down that path again. Except when she sees the real Smith, and not the cocky rock star Smith. She can't help but want him.

I loved the interactions with the rest of the band in this. I loved that Lexi and Dash's story continued, and you got a lot of snippets of them throughout the book. I also liked seeing Luke and Lexi's relationship through someone else's eyes. I can't wait to read Luke's story.

Sex. Drugs. Rock n Roll.
Yeah, we have heard it before. It’s so cliché, but it’s true of this story. I love rock star romance. It’s a favorite subgenre. However, in my history of reading rock star romances, many authors manage to create a hero who is mainly “anti-drug use” and that’s what I have come to expect when reading.
“Once upon a time, in a faraway land of booze and p***y lived a sexy badass bass guitarist...”
The hero of this story is Smith James, a recreational drug user who has the hots for Dylan Lawson, the physician’s assistant on the tour. I was not expecting to like him because of this one vice. What I got instead, was
“Unexpected, and by surprise. Perfect.”
Meet Smith James, aka Sex God and Prophylactic police. All the things you need for a wicked good, kiss-ass read. It’s tough to resist a sweet Smith, even worse a dirty talking sex god with a t-shirt as proof.
Play Dirty lives up to its title during the bouts of smexy times between Dylan and Smith. Its explicit and makes Dylan crave more of Smith. Somehow, his use of the dirty language makes her feel cherish and love. Speaking of love, Smith's declaration to Dylan is awesome. It’s to die for sweet, romantic, sexy and swoon worthy.
This was a 4 star read until Dylan shows her true colors toward the end of the book. This chick is a total badass! Out from nowhere she dwarfs from “all work and no play” to “do your worse”.
Boom! That’s Dylan dropping some knowledge on Smith’s family and making this a 5 KINK review. But you didn’t hear it from me. Just read it for yourself.
Now bring on Luke and Jacks’ stories. I can NOT wait for long.

Every time I step onto a tour bus (aka start a new rock star romance) I get excited. The delicate balance of the band's chaos and the budding romance makes for some of my favorite story telling. I love it all. The musicians. Their lovers. The mischievous hijinks and crazy ass groupies. When it's done right, it's awesome.

I thought Play Dirty was a fun and sexy read - I absolutely devoured this story. I felt giddy during all the sneaky moments of lust. I was swooning at the stolen, tender scenes. As the attraction between Smith and Dylan turned into something more, I also found myself smitten. I really liked this couple and the rest of the band.

Smith and Dylan's romance is complicated but these two just cannot resist each other. Nor do you want them to - they're freaking hot together. Their banter and flirting leads up to incredible moments of passion and lust.

There is a bit of angst wondering if Dylan would be enough to save Smith from his demons or if he has the strength to do it by himself but that only had me consuming page after page faster. I desperately wanted to find out if they could get past their individual baggage to find true love and happiness with each other.

Their story turned out to be both entertaining and captivating. I seriously loved every moment of Smith and Dylan's time spent being confined to the space of the tour bus. (Holy freaking hotness!!!) Honestly, I didn't want the tour to end. L.P. Maxa delivered an amazing romance. You definitely do not want to miss out on The Devil’s Share Series.

Play Dirty is the second book in The Devil's Share books by L.P. Maxa. You know when you read just the first few pages and already know you're going to love the book? The writing is fluid and fluent and immediately captures your interest. That's how these books are. I love them.

Smith is the bassist for the band The Devil's Share and he has a tortured past that he struggles to cope with. He drowns his inner turmoil in pills, coke and groupies.

"He was a manwhore, a possible drug addict, and too hot for his own good - a freaking horrible combination."

We are shown his struggles in the first book Play Nice and in Play Dirty it picks up right where Play Nice ends. Enter Dylan, the new physicians assistant joining the tour for the lead singer's pregnant girlfriend. As much as she tried, she couldn't help but be pulled by the magnetism of Smith. She couldn't help but want to take care of him and chase his shadows away.

"He was so damn beautiful, and so damn haunted."

The connection between the two can't be resisted and Dylan winds up saving Smith in more ways than one. Slowly, together they rebuild Smith's inner self worth and fight his past demons away.

"I don't need to save you because you are strong enough to save yourself. I'm just here to remind you of that when you forget."

Dylan is a strong lead who helps a broken man save himself. I loved these two together. I loved the sexual tension, the sweetness and the supposedly non-romantic side Smith. Add in the band who is closer than family and you've got great dynamics in these books.

Well ... Where do i start? Im still buzzing with happiness after reading this book!
From the beginning of the book when a beautiful Dylan Lawson steps onto the tour bus of 'The Devils Share' and her eyes locked on the hot and very sexy bassist Smith James, i was hooked!
Dylan is a physicians assistant hired by Dash (the band's lead singer) to 'take care' of his pregnant girlfriend Lexi.
Jacks is the guitarist and a huge playboy with the fans he also likes his drink and may i say recreational drugs.
Luke is the drummer and is the quiet one of the group. He only sleeps with his ex's! There is also some kind of weird chemistry between Luke and Lexi ... But i think thats another story.
From the moment Dylan and Smith set eyes on each other the air around them burns bright like fire! They grow closer together as the tour rolls on and they get to the point that although Dylan has been through heartbreak with an ex and Smith has suffered through hell as a child to grow into a drug taking playboy, they begin to open up to each other and feelings start to grow.
As the tour comes to an end Smith's past tries to bite him on the butt big time will his love for Dylan keep him clean and faithful or will he slip back to his old ways?
Can they survive together? ... A man whos never been shown how to love and a woman who has a heart full of love to share, but is it strong enough? Are they?
I give it full house stars and maybe even 2 bonus ones!!!

Play Dirty is the second book in the Devil’s Share Series. Smith the sexy lost bassist might of met his match with the new nurse Dylan, that’s there to help Lexi on tour. Dylan agreeing to go on tour with Lexi and the band is having a hard time being professional around Smith, but also learning to cut loose and have a little fun in her life. Dylan suspects Smith uses drugs and she can’t go that route again. Smith knows he has a problem, but his past keeps haunting him and he can’t let it go. There is too much darkness inside him, and Dylan is pure and light, he’s scared he is going to ruin her with him being so tainted.

Smith is dear to my heart. His story is one of my favorites, how can I not love a New Orleans man that uses “Cher” as a nickname. His story and past is a beautiful tragedy, that has made him so heart broken. He tries to take control of his life but always falling short, self inflicted guilt will do that to a person. Dylan is his perfect match. She balances him out, not trying to save him, but remind him that he is a strong person and he can do it all on his own. She brings the better side out of him. They are quite a few steamy scenes, and you get to experience that raw lust with these two. Their is a lot of foreplay and banter. The thing I love about Maxa’s books is the dialogue. She is the true Queen of Dialogue. You will have a lot of it, and I’m a big fan. This is my favorite book in this series, but yet not my favorite character, but this storyline really shined.
