The high demand for arbitration services has driven many countries to encourage a proarbitration environment that has led to the increase of international arbitral centers and, for many global law firms, to aggressively allocate resources to those emerging regions. However, women´s participation in the expansion of these markets has not yet been significantly reflected.
This February, Costa Rica was the venue of the first conference of ArbitralWomen in the Central America Region. ArbitralWomen is an international non-governmental organization that promotes women in dispute resolution from all parts of the globe. Our partners Roy Herrera and Carolina Muñoz participated as speakers in the conference which focused on two primary topics: the greater participation of women on arbitral tribunals and improving the opportunities for more junior female practitioners to reach the higher echelons of the arbitration community.
With March 8th being the celebration of the International Women's Day, Arias & Muñoz wants to highlight that diversity is integral to who we are and it ensures that our clients have access to the strengths and knowledge of the very brightest and most skilled members of our team. We believe that diverse recruitment practices allow us to represent a wider variety of viewpoints and experiences and, since 2001, we have worked diligently to advance the careers of talented women in our organization, such as Carolina, who is the only women attorney listed by Chambers and Partners in Dispute Resolution in Costa Rica.
