Hardwood Requires a little extra TLC. Some good tips:

1. Use a dust mop or vacuum first to remove dirt, dust, pet hair.

2. Sponge mop with 1 part white vinegar to 10 parts warm water, ensuring you wring out extra water before mopping. Dry excess pooling with a towel for the last step.

3. You can also use boiling water and two teabags to clean hardwood floors. The tannic acid in tea creates a beautiful shine. Let two teabags steep in the boiling water for a few minutes

4. Covering scratches: Take a crayon the color of the floor and rub it on the scratch to fill the gap. Turn a blow dryer on high, heat the area where the crayon was applied, and buff it with a soft cloth.

5. Throw rugs go a long way in maintaining hardwood floors.

6. Alternative: Tile Plank Flooring

Apologize if this has already been said, but I'm not going to read all 450 comments. :<0 Please think twice about Murphy Oil Soap. It's very popular and many people like the smell, but if there's even a chance you'll ever want to refinish your floors, the build up that inevitably happens with MOS will make the stripping much more labor intensive, therefore, expensive. Ask a professional who refinishes wood floor. Rarely would a floor be so dirty as to need anything but a damp mop.
